New Way Forward.

Over the past several years, I have tried without success to keep this blog updated and lively, in the hope that it will entertain many readers worldwide. IT’S TIME FOR CHANGE.

From now on this blog will be monthly, the entries will be longer and more thoughtful, and have a lot more topical content. I announce this on the day after England lost the bid to host the World Cup, the whole bag of tricks being handed over to Russia. Why did this happen? Well there have been may column inches spewing out all manner of opinion about England’s failure, many taking what I think to be a complicated view. To my way of thinking, the answer is simple – Violence.

The on pitch confrontation between Aston Villa and Birmingham, less than twenty four hours before the final vote, sealed England’s fate more I fear, than the accusations of bribery and vote buying. Who in their right mind is going to pod out thousands of Euros, dollars etc, and risk getting a glass in their face? We have to face the fact that despite wonderful ambassador’s like David Beckham, England has nothing to offer the world for a project of this magnitude. And if we don’t get to grips with this midless pest that festoon’s the terraces of our grounds, the game itself with die a tragic death.

Back In The Saddle

Like most blogs, and the people who use them, I have sadly neglected this space despite various promises in the past to ‘keep it going’. Well, I;m giving it one last chance, and I will take this opportunity to change a fewq things around, tag the entries better, and try and induce some debate into the proceedings. Add a few pics here and there and just see what happens.
Autumn is now upon us, with Winter fast approaching  from the rear, so I will be back……soon

It’s Over….Thank God

Th world cup is over, and what a bloody shambles is was, overpaid talentless trash arguing with officials over a tournament which in the grand scheme of things means absolutely nothing. Not only did we have to suffer that, the pain was multiplied by, yes you’ve guessed it TENNIS.  This was about as interesting as a neck boil about to burst.

And, just when you thought it was safe to turn the TV on, we have the Golf to contend with, the centre of attention being Tiger Woods Oh, it’s all just too much to handle, along with this overbearing heat. Roll on the Autumn, cooler climate, and real football in the form of COLCHESTER UNITED.

World Bloody Cup

I have to confess, this world cup tournament is like watching somebody trying to knit a jumper with lemon curd. And as for the England squad, words literally fail me. No heart, no passion, no enthusiasm, overpaid, and as a team, talentless trash. Just to compound this crap, we now have two weeks of Wimbledon, and as I understand our best women players are already on the train home.

Sport has mutated into a business, where the levels of attention are focused squarely on the take home pay, not the pride pf playing for representing your country. With the economy in double-dip meltdown, I was hoping that our sportsmen and women, could lift us from the doom and gloom. Not so, I’m afraid. Just a word to the wise for the England manager and FA, you could worse than to field eleven Colchester United players, now there’s a thought.

Getting Together

Yesterday, I had the good fortune of preparing lunch for two very good friends from my place of employment. Until I got married nearly five years ago, I never had the confidence to organise and follow through with such an event, now I love it.

It was a simple menu of cold meat, potatos, and mixed salad, followed by a selection of three different cheese blocks, with greek yoghurt and pineapple chunks for afters. The latter was declined, so we all opted for Fairtrade coffee. By the reaction of my two guests, it was a complete success, and I look forward to another lunch date, where I can shop and prepare.

Food, more than drink I believe, brings out the best in people and with this in mind, scrap book at the ready, I’m starting to collate a volume of recipes that I hope with satisfy the pallets of my future guests

Be Brave, Throw It Away.

I have a confession to make. I’m in danger of being suffocated under a tidal wave of excess goods, none of which I neither use or need. Just how many computers does one need to have (or in my case), hoard, hoping that one day, there will be a use for them.

This is all nonsense of course, and while I have the time the intention is to streamline down, so that everything I keep has worth. This includes drawers full of cables, drives, modems, all of which I’m sure kind be given a new life elsewhere. It’s the same with my collection of books, which seems to grow bigger, every time I pass a charity shop or one of the endless book slaes, that I see in Leicester (UK) every week.

Less really does mean more…..but I really have to start to believe that.

The Public’s Right To Know

When the killers of Jamie Bulger left confinement, they were given we are told, new identities and had to comply to certain restrictions attached to their new found freedom. All this was funded, again we are told, by the tax payer, and this was capped by a world-wide ban on the press investigating their whereabouts. for fear of retribution by either the victim’s family of vigilantes hell bent on tracking them down.

But what about the parents of Jamie Bulger, do they themselves have a right to know where the killers of their son reside?. What about their rights?. It’s an interesting question and like millions of others I will be following the events over the next few months with great interest and with an open mind. Not being a parent I have no useful answer, but as a UK tax payer for forty years, I would like to know at the very least, why one of the killers has recently returned to custody. I have that right surely??.
